LANDFILL LEACHATE PURIFICATION

IET’s Electrocoagulation (EC) system is a proven technology for the purification of landfill leachate. Oxidation and removal of heavy metals, removal of suspended solids and destruction of bacteria, viruses and cysts render harmful leachates into environmentally safe and clean water. Through the introduction of electrical current through specially designed reaction chambers, contaminants are removed easily from waters that have, in many cases, proven difficult to treat and dispose of.

  • The EC system safely and economically reduces the amount of sludge to be dealt with as well.

  • The resulting floc from EC treatment is completely environmentally safe and can be disposed of in any landfill without the risk of returning in the leachate.

  • Metal ions become larger, insoluble complex metal oxides.

  • Oils separate quickly from the water.

  • Pesticides, herbicides, chlorinated PCBs, etc. combine with metal ions as well to form chlorinated hydrocarbon molecules that separate as well.

  • Suspended solids are drawn together to form larger molecules that simply fall from the water.

  • Ammonia can be easily stripped from the remaining water with the addition of IET’s ammonia treatment system.

  • The ammonia system uses a combination of chemical and biological conditioning to convert ammonia to nitrates and free nitrogen gas

  • The resulting water is clear and free from the environmentally harmful contaminants that pollute the watershed.
